Pellets
Mini Plush Lops thrive best on a high quality pellet diet. Pellets are where they get all their nutrients from and spending a bit more on a high quality show brand will go a long way. Their daily meals before 6 months should consist of unlimited pellets, unlimited timothy hay, and (optional) a pinch of alfalfa hay if you feel they could gain weight. No fruits, veggies, seeds, or herbs should be fed to your baby mini plush lop as they can upset their stomach and cause digestive issues. In extreme cases, it can make your baby bunny very ill. For Mini Plush lops over the age of 6 months, their diet should consist of 1/2-3/4 cup of pellets and unlimited timothy hay. You may choose to feed fruits or veggies as treats on occasion but no more than a teaspoon of fruit should be given a day. Never feed your rabbit seeds, dairy, nuts, or human foods. Daily food should not be changed too quickly or too often in order to prevent digestive issues. Always start with only 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the old food for the first few days. Then feed 50/50 for a few days, and then the feed 75% new and 25% old. Always provide lots of hay during food changes! |
Hay
Hay is very important in a rabbit's diet. Rabbits have teeth that continue to grow throughout their lives. Hay helps to keep their teeth worn down and also keeps their gut moving. Rabbits in the wild eat all day every day and constant eating helps keep their gut healthy. 24/7 access to hay can prevent stomach issues like GI stasis or stress related symptoms and can even lower the risk of weaning enteritis when you bring your new baby bunny home! Always be sure your rabbit has access to fresh hay! Treats Treats are a fantastic way to bond and train your Mini Plush Lop. Luckily there are tons of healthy options and ways to spoil your bunny that they will love! Herbs like parsley, cilantro, dill, and basil are some great examples of healthy treats you can give as an occasional treat that dont contain too much sugar. Whatever you decide to spoil your bunny with, I always recommend staying away from prepackaged store bought treats labeled for bunnies. Many are unhealthy or contain dangerous foods like dairy and nuts or seeds that can harm and even kill your bunny. |
